Oleanolic acid treatment also altered the expression of 12 genes involved in the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)pathways of complement and coagulation cascades, hematopoietic cell lineage, and leukocyte transendothelial migration in intestinal epithelial cells to improve gut immunity.

Plant phenology varies with environmental and genetic factors, but few studies have examined whether the soil microbiome interacts with plant population differentiation to affect phenology and ecosystem function. We compared soil microbial variation in a widespread tree species (Populus angustifolia) with different soil inoculum treatments in a common garden environment to test how the soil microbiome affects spring foliar phenology and subsequent biomass growth. We hypothesized and show that soil bacterial and fungal communities vary with tree conditioning from different populations and elevations, that this soil community variation influences patterns of foliar phenology and plant growth across populations and elevation gradients, and that transferring lower elevation plant genotypes to higher elevation soil communities delayed foliar phenology, thereby shortening the growing season and reducing annual biomass production. Our findings show the importance of plant-soil interactions that help shape the timing of tree foliar phenology and productivity. These geographic patterns in plant population × microbiome interactions also broaden our understanding of how soil communities impact plant phenotypic variation across key climate change gradients, with consequences for ecosystem functioning. The enhancement of body awareness is proposed as one of the cognitive mechanisms that characterize mindfulness. To date, this hypothesis is supported by self-report and behavioral measures but still lacks physiological evidence. The current study investigated relation between trait mindfulness (i.e., individual differences in the ability to be mindful in daily life) and body awareness in combining a self-report measure (Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness [MAIA] questionnaire) with analysis of the heartbeat evoked potential (HEP), which is an event-related potential reflecting the cortical processing of the heartbeat. The HEP data were collected from 17 healthy participants under five minutes of resting-state condition. In addition, each participant completed the Freiburg Mindfulness Inventory and the MAIA questionnaire. Taking account of the important variability of HEP effects, analyses were replicated with the same participants three times (in three distinct sessions). First, group-level analyses showed that HEP amplitude and trait mindfulness do not correlate. Secondly, we observed that HEP amplitude could positively correlate with self-reported body awareness; however, this association was unreliable over time. Interestingly, we found that HEP measure shows very poor reliability over time at the individual level, potentially explaining the lack of reliable association between HEP and psychological traits. Lastly, a reliable positive correlation was found between self-reported trait mindfulness and body awareness. Taken together, these findings provide preliminary evidence that the HEP might not support the increased subjective body awareness in trait mindfulness, thus suggesting that perhaps objective and subjective measures of body awareness could be independent.

The outer root sheath of hair follicle and the interfollicular epidermis are continuous and basically similar in many aspects. The expression of various basement membrane (BM) components in the upper portion of the hair follicle is similar to that of the interfollicular BM. The extension of acantholysis into the adnexal structures was highlighted in the pemphigus group of diseases. On the other hand, extension of separation down the hair follicle BM has not been studied in subepidermal autoimmune bullous dermatoses. The aim of the present work was to study the extension of separation along follicular epithelium and follicular BM in pemphigus and bullous pemphigoid.

This retrospective study was conducted on pemphigus and bullous pemphigoid cases. For each case, 4-μm-thick sections stained with hematoxylin and eosin were examined for the presence of hair follicles and the extension of separation down follicular epithelium and follicular BM.

Positive extension of acantholysis down the follicular epithelium was seen in 23/27 (85.2%) of pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and 7/9 (77.8%) of pemphigus foliaceus (PF) cases with hair follicles. Follicular extension was limited to the infundibulum in PF but down the entire follicular length in PV. As for bullous pemphigoid (BP) cases, 20/26 cases (76.9%) that had hair follicles showed positive extension of the separation down the follicular BM. The cellular infiltrate detected was identical in its nature and density to that of subepidermal blister in all cases.

Extension of the separation along follicular epithelium and follicular basement membrane was observed in PV, PF, and BP without significant difference.

Herbal medicines widely used in antiviral research offer a rich reserve for drug discovery. Here, we investigated the inhibitory activity of 13 herbal medicines against WSSV in crayfish Procambarus clarkii and discovered that naringenin (NAR) has potent anti-WSSV activity. In the preliminary screening, the extracts of Typha angustifolia displayed the highest inhibitory activity on WSSV replication (84.62%, 100 mg/kg). Further, NAR, the main active compound of T. angustifolia, showed a much higher inhibition rate (92.85%, 50 mg/kg). NAR repressed WSSV proliferation followed a dose-dependent manner and significantly improved the survival of WSSV-challenged crayfish. Moreover, pre- or post-treatment of NAR displayed a comparable inhibition on the viral loads. NAR decreased the transcriptional levels of vital genes in viral life cycle, particularly for the immediately early-stage gene ie1.
