We review the findings of systematic reviews and meta-analyses of case-control studies that examine brain functioning and cognitive correlates of adolescent cannabis use using structural and functional neuroimaging tools and standardised neuropsychological tests. We also examine prospective epidemiological studies on the possible effects of adolescent and young adult cannabis use on cognitive performance in adult life and the completion of secondary education. We summarize the findings of studies in each of these areas that have been published since the most recent systematic review. Systematic reviews find that adolescent cannabis use is inconsistently associated with alterations in the structure of prefrontal and temporal brain regions. Meta-analyses reveal functional alterations in the parietal cortex and putamen. Differences in the orbitofrontal cortex predate cannabis use; it is unclear if they are affected by continued cannabis use and prolonged abstinence. Longitudinal and twin studies report larger depears to improve with sustained abstinence. BACKGROUND This retrospective cross-sectional study reports 1 month and 1 year intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) case fatality rates and their temporal trends in the Czech Republic between 1998 and 2015. METHODS Utilizing the National Register of Hospitalized Patients, we randomly selected 600 patients hospitalized for ICH and 600 patients hospitalized for SAH for each year from 1998 to 2015, and identified those who died, regardless of cause, using the Czech National Mortality Registry. We calculated crude and age-adjusted 1 month and 1 year case fatality rates for ICH and SAH. Long-term trends of the crude rates were analyzed using a one-sided Cochran Armitage test. RESULTS A total of 21,600 cases hospitalized for SAH and ICH (10,800 for each) between 1998 and 2015 were randomly selected for analysis. One month case fatality of SAH overall and in women has decreased by 0.2% (P = .006) and 0.3% per year (P = .04), respectively. Overall 1 year case fatality of SAH has decreased by 0.2% per year (P = .03). One month case fatality rate of ICH overall and in men has decreased by 0.2% (p=0.01) and 0.4% (P = .0007), respectively. One year case fatality of ICH in men has decreased by 0.2% per year (P = .047). CONCLUSIONS One month and 1 year case fatality rates for SAH and ICH have been decreasing in the Czech Republic between 1998 and 2015, and are similar or lower than those reported from other developed European countries. OBJECTIVE To compare food/beverage provisions between child care sites participating and not participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). DESIGN Cross-sectional survey administered in 2016. SETTING Licensed child care centers and homes. PARTICIPANTS Child care providers (n = 2,400) randomly selected from California databases (30% responded). Respondents (n = 680) were primarily site directors (89%) at child care centers (83%) participating in CACFP (70%). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Meals/snacks served, and food/beverage provisions provided to children of age 1-5 years on the day before the survey. ANALYSIS Odds ratios unadjusted and adjusted for the number of meals/snacks using logistic regression. RESULTS Compared with CACFP sites, non-CACFP sites provided fewer meals/snacks; had lower odds of providing vegetables, meats/poultry/fish, eggs, whole grains, and milk; and had higher odds of providing candy, salty snacks, and sugary drinks. After adjusting for the number of meals/snacks, differences were attenuated but remained significant for meats/poultry/fish, milk, candy, salty snacks (centers only), and sugary drinks. Differences emerged in favor of CACFP for flavored/sugar-added yogurt, sweet cereals, frozen treats, and white grains. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Child care sites participating in CACFP are more likely to provide nutritious foods/beverages compared with non-CACFP sites. Child care sites are encouraged to participate in or follow CACFP program guidelines. OBJECTIVE To explore perceptions of program impact among Double Up Food Bucks participants in Oregon. T0901317 METHODS Data were collected from 1,223 Double Up Food Bucks participants at 42 Oregon farmers' markets. Chi-square tests of independence and logistic regressions were used to examine associations among key variables. RESULTS Most participants reported buying more fruits and vegetables (FVs) (91.0%), trying new FV types (82.2%), eating less processed food (69.8%), having more food available at home (81.1%), and perceiving improvements in health (87.9%). Perceptions of affordability were higher among younger adults (P less then .001) and households with 3-5 people (P = .02), with children (P less then .001), and without chronic disease (P = .003). Perceptions of increased FV purchases were higher in households with children (P = .009) and reported overall health improvements were higher among nonwhite participants (P = .04). Perceptions of increased FV purchases and affordability were associated with other positive program outcomes. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Participants may perceive barriers to purchasing FVs from farmers' markets, which are not fully addressed by the increased purchasing power from a FV incentive. Targeted redesign, outreach, and education may improve program experiences among groups with less positive perceptions. Further research to identify explanations for variation in program experience is needed. Aloe vera (L.) Burm.f. is widely used as laxative drugs, cosmetics, and functional food due to a variety of therapeutic effects. However, several studies indicated a colonic carcinogenic activity of Aloe vera. But the underline mechanism has not been well clarified. This study aimed to explore the potential mechanism at the post-transcriptional level. Identification of Differential Expressed Alternative Splicing (DEAS) genes and events and the corresponding functional enrichment analyses were conducted on RKO cells after treated with Aloe vera aqueous extract and its two active components, aloin and aloesin. And RT-qPCR was conducted for validation. Results indicated that they induced 2200, 2342 and 2133 DEAS events, respectively. The GO enrichment and the COG classification results of DEAS genes showed that they were associated with transcription, as well as functions like signal transduction mechanisms. Moreover, DEAS genes related to the two colorectal cancerous pathways, Wnt and Notch pathways, were annotated.
