2 1825 Joseph Kelsey [--] Penobscot January 5 At 10 Oclock the Members were called to order by Mr. Green of Lincoln, when [Messages] Mr. Holland was charged with a message to the Governor and Council informing them that a quorum of the Senate were present and ready to be qualified.
A Message was then received from the House of Representatives informing them that a quorum of that Body were assembled, and proposing a Convention of the two Houses forthwith in the Representatives Chamber, for the purpose of being qualified.
Mr. Wheeler was then charged with a Message to the House informing them that a quorum of the Senate were assembled and concurred in their proposition.
A Convention of the Members of the two Houses was then formed, when the Governor and Council came in attended by the Sheriff of Cumberland, and the members of both Branches of the Legislature, then and there took and subscribed the oaths required by the Constitution to qualify them to enter upon the duties of their offices, before the Governor and Council. The two Houses then separated.
The members of the Senate having returned to their Chamber, proceeded to the choice of a President. First Ballot, whole number of Votes were Twenty Jonas Wheeler had 8 Votes Robert P. Dunlap had 7 Votes James Campbell had 3 Votes
