Gov. Morrill
Sir
Circumstances having just transpired which render it probable that a change will be made in the office of Indian Agent for the Penobscot Tribe. I take pleasure in recommending to you Samuel w. Hoskins Esq. as the man best suited to fill that place by a thorough personal acquaintance with the whole tribe, their situation, wants and interests.
I fully believe that his appointment would give satisfaction to the Indians and also to the Republican Party in this vicinity.
Respectfully yours
[?]. C.[?] Brett.[?]
