The Committee, I think, on the part of the Council, was Dr. Thompson of Dover, and I think that Dr. Pulsifer of Poland was on the Committee. But at the time we discovered these errors Col. Dow of Portland was present and Gov. Perham came here immediately and requested us there to go on with it. So that the three who investigated the affairs of the treasurer were Col. Dow of Portland Dr. Thompson of Dover and myself. Q. You made the investigation in 1875? A. Yes, near the close of 1873. Q. In what year did you find the defalcation to exist? A. It ran int '71 '72 + '73 Q. How much did you find in all? A. I think about $500; I dont remember the exact amount. Q. How much did you find in the year 1871? A. As near as I remember, between 2 and 3 hundred dollars
