[134] [1822 Jan. 29] [message amend. engrossed Bill] "Mr. President The House of Representatives have amended the engrossed Bill entitled An Act to alter the time of holding the Court of Sessions in the county of Somerset - by striking out the word September[underscored] and inserting October[underscored] in the last line but one," and they request the concurrence of the Senate." Which amendment being agreed to by the Senate - the Secretary was directed to inform the House thereof.
[Committee report on taxing exempts. etc.] Mr. McDonald from the joint committee to whom was referred the question of expediency of taxing the members of any religious sect or denomination in this State exempted by law from the performance of military duty, for the purpose of creating a fund for the payment of pensions to wounded or invalid officers and soldiers, their widows or orphans, with leave to report by bill or otherwise. Reported that they did not deem it expedient to act on the foregoing subject referred to them. Which being read - the same subject committed to Messrs. O'Brien & Ripley - with leave to report by bill or otherwise.
[Petition recommitted] On motion by Mr. Ripley the vote accepting the report of the Committee on petition of Stephen Heald and others, directing notice etc. was reconsidered, and the petition recommitted to the same committee - sent down for concurrence - came up concurred.
[Reports on Committee of Petitions.] Mr. Green from the Committee on Incorporation of towns made the following reports on sundry petitions referred to said committee to wit - on the Petition of Thomas Patten that the petitioner give notice of his petition to persons interested by serving an attested copy thereof and of the order thereon with the town clerks of Newburg & Hampden sixty days before the first wednesday of the next Legislature - on the petition of the Inhabitants of Foxcroft that the same be referred to the Committee on New Trials. -
