[136] Wednesday morning January 30, 1822.[centered] [1822, Jan. 30] [Committee on permanent Seat of Gov't.] On motion by Mr. Bond ordered that the Committee of both houses who have under consideration the subject of determining at what place the next Legislature shall assemble be instructed to enquire as to the expediency of appointing a committee, whose duty it shall be to visit such towns as they may think proper and designate some central and suitable place at which the seat of government may be permanently fixed and established - and the time when it will be proper to remove so such place - Sent down for concurrence - came up concurred.
[Bills] Bill to regulate the manufacture and inspection of Stone lime was taken from the committee on bills in the second reading at their request, and committed to Messrs. Wheeler and Green - and was afterwards refused a passage to be engrossed, on the report of that committee that it ought not to pass.
The following Bills were read a second time and passed to be engrossed to wit the Bill additional to An Act authorizing Courts to liberate or dispose of poor convicts in service - Sent down for concurrence. Bill to incorporate the Middle river bridge and turnpike corporation in Machias - in concurrence with the House. Bill to incorporate the Kennebec Steam Navigation company as amended in concurrence with the House - and the Bill to incorporate Samuel Bean and others for the purpose of making a canal on Burnt meadow Brook in Brownfield with amendments. Sent down for concurrence -
[Bills] The Bill entitled An additional Act to secure to owners their property in logs, masts, spars and other timber in certain cases was read and committed to Messrs. Pierce and Seaver and tomorrow at ten o'clock assigned for a second reading.
