� A Ellis Ford Va 23 June 1st 1862

I got a letter from Frances and Sofiah[sic] Coffin 2d Wrote letters to Nathaniel Cofin[sic] and his sister Sophia 4th At nine oclock we had orders to be ready to move out at a moments notice. Started for Ellis ford at eleven oclock and marched ten miles and camped till morning. and came near the ford at noon and camped. 6th Com. of Guard in the morning. Wrote to Frances and Celesta. 8th Wrote to Sidney. Still under marching orders 9th Canonading[sic] on the right and firing all day. went on picket at night the rebs drew off their pickets 10th The reb pickets appeared again. We heard there was a big cavelry[sic] fight at Brandy station. 11th We had a skirmish drill. I was fixing my tent 12th Wrote a letter home. 13th Marched to Morrisville in the night 14th Started at noon and passed thru Elktown and Weaverville and camped for the night.
