State of Maine

To all Persons to whom these Presents shall come;

Greeting:

Whereas, before our Supreme Judicial Court, begun and holden at Bangor, in and for the County of Penobscot, on the first Tuesday of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty one, Simon Read, then resident of Bangor, in our said County of Penobscot, was convicted of the crime of having in his possession certain Counterfeit Bills, with intent to pass the same as true; and thereupon, by our said Court, was sentenced to suffer thirty days solitary imprisonment and afterwards three years hard labor, within the prison in the county of Penobscot; the greater part of which sentence still remains to be executed. And he the said Simon Read has humbly supplicated us for mercy:

Now Know Ye, That, upon full consideration of the premises, WE do hereby remit to him, the said Simon Read, that part of the punishment aforesaid which remains to be executed; and grant to him, the said Simon Read, a full and free pardon of the crime aforesaid; of which all our Judges, Justices, Magistrates and officers of every denomination are to take notice.

Witness, Albion K. Parris, Esquire, our Governor, with the advice and consent of our Council, and our Seal hereunto affixed, at Portland, the third day of July, in the year of our Lord, one thousand, eight hundred and twenty two; and in the forty sixth year of the Independence of the United States of America.
