On the renewal of the commission in September last, the appointment was declined by the present Inspector, on account of the amount of duties required by law to be paid on the commission. He was informed that the payment of the duty was indispensable during the existence of the law, but that as the requiring a duty on an office, of so little emolument, was questionable the subject would be submitted to the consideration of the Legislature Under this assurance the appointment was accepted.
