State of Maine.

To all persons to whom these presents shall come,

Greeting:

Whereas, before our Supreme Judicial Court, begun and holden at Paris, within and for our County of Oxford, on the second Tuesday of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two, Andrew P. McGaw, of Paris, in our said County of Oxford, Laborer, as convicted of the crime of wilfully [willfully] and maliciously burning the Gaol in our said County of Oxford; and thereupon, by our said Court, was sentenced to solitary imprisonment for the term of one month, and by confinement afterwards to hard labor for life, within either of the Gaols, in our Counties of Oxford and Cumberland; a part of which sentence remains yet to be executed; and he the said Andrew P. McGaw, has humbly supplicated Us for mercy:

Now Know Ye, That, upon full consideration of the premises, We do hereby remit to him the said Andrew P. McGaw, that part of the punishment aforesaid that yet remains to be executed; of which all our Judges, Justices, Magistrates, and Officers of every denomination are to take notice.

Witness, Albion K. Parris, our Governor, with the advice and consent of our Council, and our Seal hereunto affixed, at Portland, the seventh day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty five; and in the fiftieth year of the Independence of the United States of America:
