State of Maine.

To all who shall see these Presents:

Greeting:

Know Ye, That Enoch Lincoln our Governor, reposing special trust and confidence in the integrity, ability and discretion of Daniel rose of Thomaston, Esquire, hath nominated, and by and with the advice and consent of our Council appointed the said Daniel Rose, Esquire, Agent to superintend and manage the sale and settlement of the Public Lands, under the Act entitled “An Act to promote the sale and settlement of Public Lands,” passed the twentieth day of February one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight.

We therefore do hereby authorize and empower him to fulfil [fulfill] the duties of that office according to law; and to have and to hold the same, together with all the powers, privileges and emoluments thereto of right appertaining unto him the said Daniel rose, Esquire, for the term of four years, if he shall so long behave himself well in said Office, unless sooner removed by the Governor and Council for the time being.

In Testimony whereof, We have caused these Letters to be made Patent and our Seal to be hereunto affixed. Witness our Governor at the Council Chamber in Portland the twenty eighth day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight; and of the Independence of the United States the fifty second.

On the first day of July A.D. 1828 Personally appeared Daniel rose of Thomaston Esq. in the County of Lincoln, and took and subscribed the oaths prescribed by the Constitution of this State and a law of the United States to qualify him to discharge and execute the duties of the office of Land Agent for the State of Maine within and for the State aforesaid to which he was appointed on the 28th of June A.D. 1828.
