To all who shall see these Presents,
Greeting:
Know Ye, That George Evans, of Gardiner, in the County of Kennebec, Esquire, on the twentieth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine was chosen by the People of this State, legally qualified therefor, a Representative, to represent them in the Congress of the United States of America, for the term by the Constitution of said United States expressed, commencing with the fourth day of March 1829, in the room of the Hon. Peleg Sprague, who was elected and declined, at the times and places, and in the manner, of holding election, prescribed by our Legislature, agreeably to the powers therein vested by the Constitution aforesaid.
In Testimony Whereof, I have caused the seal of the State to be hereunto affixed. Given under my hand, at Portland, the twenty third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine; and in the fifty fourth year of the Independence of the United States of America.
