Thursday afternoon January 31, 1822 -

[Bills] Bill to incorporate the Master, Wardens and members of the Lincoln Lodge - read a second time and passed to be engrossed. Sent down for concurrence. Bill to establish the Calais Boom Corporation was read a second time and passed to be engrossed. Sent down for concurrence. Resolve granting a pension to John Carlton 2d was read a second time and passed to be engrossed. Sent down for concurrence.

[Reports on petitions] Mr. Dennett from the Committee on Turnpikes, Bridges & canals reported that the petition of the Selectmen & others of Warsaw be referred to the next legislature - which report was read and accepted - sent down for concurrence - came up concurred. Mr. Dennett from the same Committee also reported - that Joseph Lamson have leave to withdraw his petition - that the petition of Samuel Patterson & others be referred to the next legislature - and that Gardiner Brown and others, on their petition, have leave to bring in a bill - Which reports were severally read and accepted - Sent down for concurrence - came up concurred.

[Committee on Bank returns] On motion - Ordered that Messrs. Tallman and O'Brien, with such as the House may join, be a Committee - to whom shall be referred the returns from the several Banks made to the Legislature at this Session - for the purpose of investigation, and to report a statement of facts as respects the standing of each individual Bank so far as it may be in their power to judge, as soon as may be; in order that the Legislature may be the better able to judge, as to the expediency of raising a Committee to investigate the actual standing and condition of the several Banks now incorporated in this State - or either of them.
