    As the President has called for three

hundred thousand additional troops and as promotions are to be made among the deserving officers of regiments and as my officers will necessarily share in there [?word] tions it will not perhaps be unpleasing to you while it is gratifying to me, to be able to state that during your time of service in this regiment as Captain of Company G. now nearly fifteen months, I can but express my entire satisfaction in every respect and furthermore can fully endure you in any higher positions - satisfied that wherever stationed you will as conform yourself not only a fine[?] officer but a thorough gentleman.
