Bangor Aug 25th 1861

Sunday eve

Hon. I. Washburn Jr.

Dear Sir

Dr. McRuer wrote me under date of 18th inst. [last] that his Commission with 2nd Maine had expired but that he had written you he would give his services until he heard from you. Under same date he wrote Doctr [Field?] the same, and expressed a hope that I should be induced to take the place. I should have been ready to start tomorrow (Monday) morning but concluded I would not start until I had further orders from you as you had received “direct information” from Doctr. McR. I shall undoubtedly be ready to go on Tuesday morning, and will do so if I hear from you by mail Monday evening and you desire it shall I be able to remain over at Augusta or can I proceed directly in the [camp?]?

Very truly

S. B. Morrison
