to take men that are not fully Schoold [Schooled] and disciplined for immediate and active Service, it strikes me that He (I believe I am not presumeing [presuming?]) is of the very Material they want I have Written Him to day [today] to obtain Some expression from His officers at Washington and if you desire Will forward[?] the Same to you when [?] but I have had assurances of His Bravery Patriotism and good deportment and a desire from the Capt that “He might be promoted in the Army”

I believe He has done His duty Every day as a Soldier which is very arduous as only about 1/4 of the Regt are on duty of late

If you will be Kind enough to intercede for Him at the departure[?] as arly as practicable and advise me in the matter I shall be under great obligations
