Thursday January 5th 1826.

Met according to adjournment.

The Committee appointed to invite the attendance of the several ordained Clergyman [Clergymen] of Portland upon this House as Chaplains, reported that they had performed the duty assigned them, and that the Reverend Gentleman [Gentlemen] were pleased to say, that they would attend according to the invitation given them – thereupon it was, Ordered that the Page give daily notice to the Clergyman [Clergymen] whose duty it shall be to perform on that day as Chaplain.

The Committee appointed to contract with some suitable person to perform the duties of door keeper and Page the present session, reported that they have contracted with Thomas Baker to perform those duties at four dollars per day – report accepted.

The Speaker announced his appointment of the following gentlemen as Monitors, to wit,

For the Eastern Division of the House – Mr Gowin of Montville.

For the Middle Division of the House – Mr White of Monmouth

For the Western Division of the House Mr Hodman of Warren.

The Committee on the subject of reporting a system of Rules & Order &c, reported those adopted by the last Legislature, with sundry amendments – and the report being amended after some discussion was adopted – whereupon the Clerk was ordered to cause 300 copies thereof, together with a list of the standing Committees and of the members of the House with the seats they respectively occupy, to be printed.
