Gen John L. Hodsdon

Dear Sir

Henry Barrett Esq of Hermon is in great distress concerning the situation of his two sons in the 2d Maine Regiment. They are reported with the mutineers.

He says one of them is but 18 yrs of age that he consented for him to inlist for two years & he is desirous of knowing if the Government will endeavor to hold him now for three years or whether he can be held any longer than three months as none were authorized to be enlisted for two years. He says he wants his Boys to return to duty but does not want them sent off. Mr Barrett is a very good man and I hope you and the Commander in Chief of Maine will aid in doing what can be done to return his Boys from their unpleasant situation
