to the Hon Lot. M Morrill Governor of the State of Maine

The undersigned inhabitants of Old Town and vicinity believing that an appointment of an Agent for the Penobscot Tribe of Indians will be immediately made to take the place of Winslow Staples who it is supposed has left the state, would respectfully recommend to your favorable consideration James A Purinton of Old Town as a gentleman of business qualifications and of good moral character and every way qualified to fill that office and request that he may be appointed. And as in duty bound pray.
