2nd Regmt Maine Near Fort Corcoran July 31, 1861

L.H. Eaton Dear Sir

We want the descriptive roll of those men that I enlisted at Old Town. I gave it to you & I understood that you did not finish the copy of that or your own. My roll was laid upon a shelf at the room where the clothing was distributed at the Arsenal.

Shepley & Mayville have deserted - also John F. Spaulding whose father lives in main street Bangor - Strickland has left no Roll - please tell L Morse or Gen'l Hodsdon if you see them.

In haste [Yours] Sam. W. Hoskins
