I will say that it is impossible for one Surgeon to attend all sick ones of our regiments if he is at all times [?], we have many sick ones at this time, and shall not have less at any time during the summer season, in all probability. The Surgeon is quite as liable to sickness as any other man So it will be obvious to you for that reason it is necessary to have more than one.
I have well acquainted with Dr Palmer a number of years- I know he is competent in every respect to fill the place as Surgeon, but I think, finally know, that he needs an assistant.
