2 [1824] [January 7] On motion of Mr. Dennett ordered that a message be sent to the Governor and Council informing that a quorum of the Senate was present and ready to be qualified.

[Members Qualified] The two Branches of the Legislature then assembled at the Representatives room, when the members of the Senate and House of Representatives severally took and subscribed the oaths required by the Constitution, in the presence of the Governor and Council.

The members of the Senate then returned to this room, and proceeded to the choice of a President.

Messrs. Witham and Usher were chosen a Committee to receive, sort and count the votes for that purpose. The whole number of Votes given, was sixteen, necessary to a choice nine; on the first ballotting.
