Bill – to authorize the Selectmen of Portland to appoint an additional number of Enginemen & for other purposes – was read a 1st & 2nd time & Monday next at 10 o clock assigned for a 3d reading.

Bill – an act additional to an act to prevent frauds & perjury, was read a 3d time & passed to be engrossed in concurrence with the Senate.

Report of the committee on the order to consider the expediency of repealing an act additional to an Act for impounding beasts &c, that such repeal is inexpedient, came from the Senate accepted for concurrence and the House concurred.

Petition of Thomas Clark & als in behalf of the Trustees of the Oxford Female Academy, for a grant of a township of land was read & referred to the committee on Literature & Literary Institutions. Sent up for concurrence.

The House took up the subject of the consideration of the report of the committee on so much of the Governors Communication as relates to the subject of internal improvement and a system for a proportional distribution of the surplus funds of the United States to promote internal improvement, and the accompanying resolves, and after discussion of the subject at considerable length, on motion of Mr Ames, the House ordered the papers to lay upon the table until Tuesday next at 10 o clock.
