Head Quarters 2nd Regt Me. Vol. Camp Seward Washington June 22/61
Dear Sir
Since telegraphing you in relation to horses
& wagons, I have had an interview with the Quarter- master General and he requests me to procure my whole outfit from Maine. He says it is almost impossible for him to furnish transpor- -tation for the troops as fast as they want to move them, and it is very desirable in- deed that states should furnish their troops with everything necessary for active field service. Gen. Mansfield told me the day I received your dispatch that horses were coming in quite fast & that I should procure them here - but he was mistaken.
The Quarter Master General has full control
of the transportation of the troops and he desires me to request you to furnish the means of transportation for my Regt. I do not know how many teams it will require but I think sixteen four horse teams with two 2 horse
