Bangor July 7 1861

Dear Sir

I will accept the temporary appointment for the 2nd regt. provided I receive a free pass for myself & servant to Wash. and back, unless I conclude to remain there.

I wish you to consider my offer as a perfectly disinterested one, [?] from my belief that no person is at liberty in this present crisis, to refuse his services to the Gov. whenever they may be required.

Yours Truly D. McRuer

Gov. Washburn
