Report on the order to inquire into the expediency of repealing the part of an act allowing fees ect to Sheriffs, report that provision upon this subject is embraced in a Bill before the Legislature & that no further order is necessary hereon, was read & accepted in concurrence with the Senate.

Bill ceding the United States the jurisdiction of Whales Back and Wood Island, was reported by the committee on the petition of Isaac Ilsley, read a 1st & 2nd time & tomorrow at 20 oclock assigned for a 3rd reading.

Resolve in favor of Thompson Pond Plantation, was read a second time & passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence.

Petition of Jacob G Loring & als to be incorporated by the name of North Yarmouth Stage Company, was read & referred to Messrs Mitchell of North Yarmouth, Pote of Freeport & Fogg of Elliot.

Ordered that the Senate be requested to take from their files & send to this House the petition of David Walton & Isaac Russel presented to the last & referred to the present Legislature - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

Bill to repeal the 26th Sec. of an act entitled an act to organize, govern & discipline the Militia of this State, was taken up & referred to Messrs Jewett of Bowdoinham, Alden of Brunswick & Bryant of Fairfield

The committee on State Lands to whom was referred the order instructing them to consider the expediency of allowing bills of cost accruing upon suits commenced on notes taken by the Land Agent for settling land, reported that they cannot perceive any good reason why costs in those cases should not be allowed, which report, accepted in the Senate, came down for concurrence and the House concurred.
