Dear Sir

I start this morning by S[tevens?] Landford - I understand from the Camp of the 2d that the surgical insts [instruments] of Dr Allen were taken from him, and that another set is much wanted. I hope you will authorize me by telegraph at “Parker House” Boston or “Astor House” N.Y. (I will be at the former tomorrow, the latter next day) to provide myself with such instruments as are necessary for field duty.
