38 passed Feb. 23rd 1825 in such a manner that whenever a fine shall be imposed on any town or plantation for the repair of any highway, that no Agent may have the power to deprive the town on plantation, that may comply with the requisitions of said law, from receiving the benefit intended by the act - read & passed. Ordered that Messrs Williams of Readfield, Parcher of Saco, and Smart of Prospect with such as the Senate may join, be a committee to take into consideration the expediency of putting a stop to the practice of treating on days of public election, with leave ect - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr Atler of Norridgewock,

   Ordered, that the committee on Finance be requested to ascertain whether Benjamin Adams Esquire late Sheriff of the County of Somerset has ever paid or caused to be paid into the Treasury the monies collected by him, for the use of the State on account of fines and Bills of cost: - and also whether the Agents appointed by the Governor & Council to settle with Sheriffs, Clerk & other persons in said County respecting fines & bill of cost which had been assigned by Massachusetts to this State, have ever paid into the Treasury of the State any monies by them thus received, or made any report of their doings - read & passed.

Report on petition of Joseph Thompson & others, granting an Order of Notice came from Senate accepted for concurrence - and the House concurred.

   Ordered, that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of passing a Law authorizing the Inhabitants of all incorporated Towns & Plantations to raise money and expend the same on Highways as they may think property. Read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.
