be a committee to receive and examine the returns of votes given in the several towns and plantations in this State for Senators and to report who appear to be elected, what vacancies exist, and who are the constitutional candidates to fill the same and also to consider the communication of Mark Sheppard and report thereon

The Secretary of State came in with a Message from the Governor, and laid on the table the Returns of votes given in the several towns and plantations in the State for Governor

Ordered that Messrs Churchill, Stebbins and Scamman with such as the House may join be a Committee on the Returns of votes for Governor sent down for concurrence came up concurred Messrs Clark, Kavanagh and Bent were joined

Afternoon. On motion by Mr. Stebbins, Ordered that the Secretary procure tickets numbered in correspondence to the seats at this board, except the number "nine," from which each Senator may draw a number to designate the seat which he shall occupy

On motion by Mr. Southwick. Ordered that Secretary of the Senate be authorized to appoint an Assistant to aid him in the discharge of his various duties
