54 Petition of the Selectmen of Whiting and report thereon, taken from the last years files of the Senate and sent down at the request of the House, was read & referred to the committee on State Lands. Sent up for concurrence.

Bill additional to an act, entitled an act establishing the County of Waldo - was reading a 3rd time & passed to be engrossed as amended. Sent up for concurrence.

Ordered that the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of so altering the third section of an act respecting Highways passed February 24th 1827 as that in all cases the Selectmen of towns and the assessors of Plantations shall be notified in writing of the bad State of the Highways and the intention to complain at least thirty days previous to information being made to the Supreme Judicial Court - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

Messrs Adams of Portland, Nance of Baring & Lord of Newport were appointed a committee to consider the expediency of providing a more speedy & efficient mode of transmitting the laws & resolves to the towns & plantations which are entitled by law to receive them.

On motion of Mr Ames of Clinton,

   Ordered that Messrs Ames of Clinton, Higgins of Eden & Chapman of Vienna with such as the Senate may join be a committee to inquire into the expediency of abolishing imprisonment for debt with leave & read & passed. Sent up for convenience

Petition of the Selectmen of lincolnville for an alteration of the law respecting Inspectors of Lime, was read & referred to the committee on Manufactures. Sent up for concurrence. And the House adjourned. Attest, James L Child Clerk.
