Met according to adjournment.

Petition of Francis Cook & als for a Bank at Wiscasset was read & referred to the Committee on Banks & Banking. Sent up for concurrence.

A message was received from the Senate requesting the deed of Joshua Gage & als presented to the present Legislature to be sent - & it was sent up accordingly.

Bill to repeal the 1st Section of an act entitled an additional act respecting the inspection of Beef, Pork, Butter & Lard & for other purposes - was read 1st & 2d time & referred to Messrs Fessenden of Portland, Richardson of Portland & Morrill of Wells.

Bill to cede to the United States of America the jurisdiction of certain lands was read a [2d or 3d] time & passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence.

Bill to incorporate the Canal Bank - was passed to be enacted. The question was taken by yeas & nays & decided in the affirmative Yeas 82. Nays 42. Sent up for concurrence

Ordered that the Committee on Finance be instructed to omit in the tax act for the present year Township No 8. 8th range in he County of Somerset, which was included in the last Valuation; but is not subject to taxation: it being the property of Harvard College; and that they be instructed to consider the expediency of abating or remitting the State Tax set to said Township for the four years last past - read and passed.
