To the Senate, and House of Representatives: Previous to the recent execution at Castine, upon the application of the Sheriff of the County of Hancock, a military company was ordered out, by the Major General of the third Division to act as a Guard on that occasion. The roll of those who performed the duty has been transmitted to me and is herewith laid before the Legislature. From inquiry into the case, I am fully satisfied, that the services, of this Company were necessary, and would therefore, suggest the propriety of making provision for their payment.

To the Senate, and House of Representatives: The Adjutant General having reported the resignation of Major General Blossom of the sixth Division and the same having been accepted, I now make known to the two branches of the Legislature, that the office of Major General of the sixth Division of the Militia of this State is vacant.
