Gov Morrill

D[ea]r Sir

Learning that their is to be a vacancy soon in the Indian Agency of the Penobscot Tribe of Indians. I write you at this time to say that I hope you will consider favorably the claims and superior fitness for the place of F. H. Dillingham Esq of Bangor

Being one of the committee on Indian affairs the past winter, I have learned something of the manner in which their affairs have been managed heretofore, I saw the necessity of having an honest man in the place, my friend Dillingham being such a man, I hope you will see fit to give him the appointment,

And much oblige your obt servt
