� Return to the Front 41 Oct 19th I started for the front. My regt left Beverly Ford while I was away so I took the cars to Culpepper, and found the regt two miles southwest of the town. 20th I fixed up my tent. We had an inspect at 9 oclock A.M. Devine service at three P.M. 21st Sidney was here to see me and staid all day. We got our pictures taken together. He told me that Prentis was dismounted and is not at Culpepper 22nd Prentis went to his regt with a squad and called to see me. He is well. We have eight days rations on hand for a man'r. We signed the pay rolls in the evening. I got two letters from home and answered them 23d Our Regt came in from picket and all wer paid off. Our boys went back on picket at night. The cavelry had a fight in front yesterday. A rumor that Rosemonts [?] is having hard fighting on the Cumberland
