A message was received from the Governor by Mr. Nichols, Secretary of State, ( see message in the appendix page 274) which was read from the chair, and then on motion referred, together with the message from the Governor entered in the proceedings of yesterday afternoon, to Messrs. Holmes of Alfred, Smith of Nobleboro + Little of Castine.
The committee appointed to wait on the several ordained clergymen in the town of Portland, and invite their attendance as Chaplains to the House of Representatives +c reported that the several clergymen aforesaid would comply with wishes of the House - and thereupon it was Ordered, that the Page inform them severally of the days when their respective services are required.
On motion of Mr. Swan, Order that the Clerk of the House cause to be printed 500 copies of the Speech made by the Governor to both branches of the Legislature for the use of the House.
The House resumed the consideration of the report of the Committee on the Rules + Orders and the proposed amendment thereto, adopted the amendment moved by Mr. Holmes and then accepted the report as amended.
Ordered that the Clerk of the House cause two hundred + fifty copies of the Rules + Orders adopted the present session with a list annexed of the standing committees of the Legislature and the Civil Government for the current year to be printed for the use of the members.
