Monday January 12th 1829

Met according to adjournment

Memorial of Moses Pelton setting forth the illegal proceedings of Samuel Doe in his office of Justice of the Peace was read and referred to Messrs. Bond of Bucksport, Belcher of Farmington & Davis of Bridgton.

On motion of Mr. Shapleigh of Berwick Ordered that the Secretary of State be requested to lay before this House the returns of the Sheriffs of the several Counties in this State, made to the Secretary's office agreeably to the third section of an act passed February 25 th 1828. Read & passed.

On motion of Mr. Stevens of Belfast Ordered, that the committee on manufactures be instructed to inquire as to the expediency of forming a new district for the inspection of Lime, to comprise the towns of Belfast, Northport, Lincolnville, Isleboro, Castine and Penobscot. read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

A communication was laid before the House by the Speaker, signed by Selectmen from the town of Brooks, Munroe, Jackson & Thorndike by which it appears that the Representative Class composed of said towns have made six ineffectual attempts to elect a Representative from said class & they do not deem it expedient to hold further meetings for the purpose. - which was read and referred to the committee on Elections.
