� 52 At Meine [?] Run Nov 29th Our brigade started to the front before daylight to relieve a brigade of the second corps from picket. It was very mudy, and we did not get our posts untill after sunrise. There was heavy picket fireing while we was takeing our posts. One man in Co E was wounded in the arm. Some picket fireing all day. The rebel brestworks are all in sight about 3/4 of a mile from ours. The cesesh flags are flying all in sight. 30th Our batterys opened in the morn-ing but did not get much reply from the rebs. Some shelling from both sides in the afternoon. But fear killed as wounded. The rebel armey is intrenched on the [?] side of mine run from the union armey and appear to be so strong that it seems to be useless to sacri-fise men to drive them from their marks, so Genl Mead givs orders to prepair to fall back to the Rappahannock river.
