17th January 1829. "To the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Having been notified by the Secretary fo State that I am elected a Senator in the Congress of the United State & having received the certificate of my appointment from the Governor I now resign my seat as a representative in this House - Entertaining the most grateful feelings towards the Legislature and especially towards the members of this House with whom I have for a short period of time been so happily associated, I now bid you & the House of representatives a respectful & affectionate adieu. J. Holmes" and thereupon on motion of Mr. Powers of Sandford, Ordered, that the Selectmen of the town of Alfred be notified of the resignation of John Hopkins as a representative from said town, and requested to fill the vacancy as soon as maybe, and that the Clerk of the House transmit a copy of this order to said Selectmen. - read & passed.
Bill to incorporate the Alfred Academy, reported by the committee on Bills in the third reading without amendment was read a third time & on motion ordered to lie on the table.
Resolve in favor of Thomas H. Norcross was read 1st & 2nd time & ordered to lie on the table.
