[Chaplain chosen] On motion by Mr Cushman the Senate proceeded to ballot for chaplain. Messrs Cushman Ricker and Drummond were appointed a committee to receive sort and count the votes who reported that the whole number of votes given was 16 Necessary to constitute an election 9 Rev. Rev. Dr. Nichols was then declared duly elected and on motion by Mr Cushman the President was requested to notify the Revd Gentleman of his election and request his acceptance.

[Secy of Senate to contract with his assistant] On motion by Mr Dane ordered that the Secretary of the Senate be authorized to contract with his assistant for the compensation he shall receive for his services not exceeding two dollars per day.
