� 98 I returned to my regt News last night that Gen Sheridan has given the rebels in the upper potomac an awful whiping. I think I shall go to the regt tomorrow so I will close this. Sept 22d A rainy morning. After sick call I went to the first Me Cavelry and staid untill one oclock PM. Then I got read and went to my regt. Arived at three oclock and found them just where I left them a week ago. One Benja [Benjamin] Lesbner[?] came to me to know if Nathan Winslow of Ashland was in this regt. I found out that this man was a sousin of Artemas + Nathaniel Coffin. He is in Co G 9th N.H. Vols and looks like Nathaniel Coffin 23d No news of importence. We had a good brigade drill. 24th Went on picket at seven oclock A.M. The prisoners wer choping trees and hurt one of our regts men by a limb striking him. One of the 16th Michigan regt got his leg broken in the same way. This is pay day.
