State of Maine

To all whom these Presents shall come,

Be it known that John Holmes, Esquire, on the thirtieth day of January, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty, was chosen by the People of this State, was constitutionally elected by the Legislature, a Senator, to represent this State in the Congress of the United States, for the period of six years, commencing with the fourth day of March, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty one, according to the provisions of the Constitution. Given under our Seal: Witness William King, Esquire, our Governor, at Portland, the thirty first day of January in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty one; and in the forty fifth year of the Independence of the United States of America.
