Petition of Robert H. Gardiner in behalf of the visitors of the Gardiner Lyseum, praying that a less number than is now necessary by law, may constitute a quorum, came from the Senate referred tot he Committee on Literary Institutions for concurrence & the House concurred.

Petition of William Harris & als of Gorham for relief from the injuries inflicted by the Cumberland & Oxford Canal Corporation was read & referred to Messrs. Mann of Gorham, Scammon of Pittston & Shaw of Standish.

Petition of Benjamin Fiske & als for an extension of the time allowed to build the Old Town Bridge, was read & referred to the committee on Canals, Turnpikes & Bridges. Sent up for concurrence.

Remonstrance of the Town of Vassalboro against the petitions of Samuel Homans & als & I. Southwick & als; was read & referred to the committee on Interior Fisheries. Sent up for concurrence.

The House again resolved itself into a committee of the Whole House, on the "Resolve in favor of Anson & Alfred Academy" - the question before the committee being on the motion of Mr. Goodenow of Alfred "That the Resolve should pass to be engrossed & that the committee so report to the House" - Mr. Allen of Sedwick moved an amendment to the amendment as follows " That the resolve should pass to be engrossed as amended by striking out One thousand & insert instead thereof five hundred and that the committee so report to the House" and this last motion prevailed. The question was then taken on the motion made by Mr. Goodenow as amended, by yeas & nays & decided in the negative as follows yeas 59 nays 68 [see appendix page 336] Mr. Goodenow of Alfred then moved "That the Resolve should pass as amended by striking out at B. one thousand & inserting instead thereof three hundred and by striking out at C. the word five and inserting instead thereof the word three and that the committee so report to the House and the motion prevailed.
