130 On the spring campaign Mar 28th 1865 We had two drills today. Orders to be in readyness to move out an earley hour in the morning. 29th We broke camp before light and got ready, and marched at 7 oclock and went to the left on the same road we took a short time ago, We went but a short distence when the skirmishing began, We went out on the flank to hold the road when the 1st brigade charged acrost the field, and drove the rebs back by loos-ing quite a number killed and wound-ed. We went in support of the 1st brigade and the rebs shelled us some but did not bust any of the 20th Me. We stoped in the roads till after dark and then ad-vansed, and built works in the night although it rained verry hard. 30th We lay down to rest on the ground in the middle of the night, and this morning we formed ourselves as we as drownded rats. but up we must and make the best of it. The rebs pickets are in sight on a hill by the road.
