State of Maine.

To all persons to whom these presents shall come

Greeting:

[to the left is a circle with "Seal." inside it and "Enoch Lincoln” written under it]

Whereas before our Court of Common Pleas, begun and holden at Portland within and for the County of Cumberland on the first tuesday of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred twenty eight Emeline Roberts, of Portland in said County of Cumberland Spinster, was convicted of the Crime of Larceny, and thereupon by our said Court was sentenced to be punished by confinement to hard labor for the term of one year in the County Gaol in Portland within said County of Cumberland, a part of which sentence yet remains to be executed and she the said Emeline Roberts has humbly supplicated Us for mercy.

Now Know Ye, that upon full consideration of the premises, We do hereby remit to her the said Emeline Roberts, the residue of the punishment aforesaid to which she was sentenced by the said Court of Common Pleas; of which all our Judges, Justices, Magistrates, and Officers of every denomination are to take notice

Witness Enoch Lincoln, our Governor, with the advice and consent of our Council, and our Seal hereunto affixed, at Portland, the fifth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine; and in the fifty third year of the Independence of the United States of America.
