Thursday 14th January 1830

[7th Ballot]

The Senate met according to adjournment, and proceeded to ballot for Secretary; the Committee who had been appointed for that purpose reported: That the whole number of votes was "sixteen" Necessary to a choice --- "Nine" John A. Chandler had --- Eight Carleton Dole ---- Eight No choice.

[8th. Ballot]

8th ballot: The whole member votes was "sixteen" Necessary to a choice --- "Nine" Carleton Dale had Eight Edward Kavanagh --- Eight No choice

[9th. Ballot]

9th ballot: The whole number of votes was "sixteen" Necessary to a choice --- "Nine" Carleton Dole had --- Eight Edward Kavanagh ---- Eight No choice

[10th. Ballot.]

10th ballot The whole number of votes was "Sixteen" Necessary to a choice --- "Nine" Edward Kavanagh had Ten Carleton Dole ---- Six

[Secretary elected]

Whereupon Edward Kavanagh was declared duly elected Secretary of the Senate.

An motion by Mr Kingsbery, Mr Dunlap was appointed to notify Mr Kavanagh of his election.
