for the purpose of coming to the choice by ballot of a Senator for Washington district, and informing the House that John Balkam & Ichabod Buckman are the constitutional candidates for that district, and the House nonconcurred and assigned three oclock this afternoon for the above purpose & requested the concurrence of the Senate - immediately a message was received from the Senate informing the House that they do concur.

Agreeably to assignment the House proceeded by ballot to the election of a Chaplain - and on taking the first ballot it appeared no person had the requisite majority - on taking the second ballot it appeared the whole number of votes given in was one hundred & thirty seven, necessary to a choice sixty nine & Rev. Ichabod Nichols of Portland having seventy one votes was declared duly elected, and Messrs Cobb of Durham, Parcher of Saco & Scammon of Pittston were appointed a committee to notify him of his election.

The Committee of both Houses appointed to examine the returns of votes for Governor in the several towns and plantations in this State, reported that the whole number of votes for Governor, given by the qualified elections and returned according to the provisions of the Constitution and laws, is twenty thousand four hundred fifty eight - necessary to constitute a choice ten thousand two hundred & thirty - that Enoch Lincoln has nineteen thousand nine hundred and Sixty nine votes and is duly elected Governor of the State of Maine for the current political year by a majority of all the votes returned agreeably to the provisions of the Constitution. The committee also reported their rejection of the votes of Freeport, Whitfield [Whitefield], Brooksville, Alexander, Orono, Thorndike, Monroe, Mariaville plantation for certain informalities by them stated. They also reported that no returns were made by Thompson pond plantation - Plantation No 9 - Washington County - plantations No 7 & No 8
