On motion of Mr Clark of Hallowell, Ordered that the joint standing committee on the Judiciary be directed to inquire into the expediency of an alteration, or repeal of the laws relating to the Inspection of Butter & Hogs Lard, with leave to report by bill or otherwise - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr Jewett of Bowdoinham, Ordered that the joint standing Committee on the Judiciary be directed to inquire into the expediency of establishing by law a salary for the several Sheriffs in this State, or increasing the amount of fees now received by Deputy Sheriffs, and of requiring the several Sheriffs to render under oath annually a just and true account of fees by them received, or such other provisions relative to this subject, as may be deemed expedient & necessary. - read and passed - Sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr Evans of Gardiner, Ordered, that the several certificates of membership, on the Clerks file, be referred to the Committee on Contested Elections - read & passed.

The Treasurers Annual Report on the state of the Finances for the year 1827, came from the Senate referred to Messrs Cutler & Richardson with such as the House may join - and the House concurred and Messrs Adams of Portland, Neal of Litchfield & Gilman of Wells were joined.

Ordered that Messrs Barrett of Canaan, Vance of Baring & Brigham of Wayne with such as the Senate may join be a committee to inquire into the expediency of altering the laws relating to the taxation of property &c, - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

Petition of Nathaniel Goodwin 3d for leave to change his name was read & referred to the committee on change of names.
