95 Wednesday January 26th 1831 Met according to adjournment Memorial of Thomas P. Stetson against the Petition of Joseph Day & others to be incorporated to run a horse ferry boat from Woolwich to Bath was read & referred to the Committee on Turnpikes, Bridges & Canals - sent up for concurrence.

Resolve in favor of John Neptune & Joseph Sockabasin was read 1st & 2nd time & passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence.

Ordered that the Senate be requested to take from their files the Petition of David Springer Jr & others and send the same to this House - sent up.

On motion of Mr. Fillebrown of Winthrop, Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of changing the existing law relative to the compensation of the Clerks of the Courts in the several Counties of this State - & to establish a law that said compensation shall be fixed at a certain sum for all services - & the amount received in each County for fees over the sum so fixed as said compensation to be paid into the Treasury of the respective Counties - sent up for concurrence

On motion of Mr. Chase of Atkinson, Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of amending the law providing that meat cattle may go at large - sent up for concurrence.

Order that the committee on (the Judiciary) on Literary Institutions be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law for the education of youth without the limits of incorporated towns & organized plantations - also to inquire into the practicability
