Remonstrance of the town of Raymond agst the petition of Jesse Plummer & al - and Petition of the Proprietors of Kittery point Bridge for further time to erect said Bridge - were severally read & referred to the committee on Turnpikes, Bridges and Canals. Sent up for concurrence.

Remonstrance of W. A. Swett against the passage of a law establishing the Penobscot River & several of its branches a public Highway &c was read & referred to Messrs Kent of Bangor, Clark of Hallowell & Harvey of Carmell with such as the Senate may join. Sent up for concurrence.

A communication was received from Edward Russell signifying his acceptance of the office of Secretary of State which was read and sent up.

A communication was received from the Secretary of State transmitting a letter from Ebenezer Farley, Counsellor elect, declining acceptance of that office.

On motion of Mr. Herrick of Lewiston, Ordered that the joint standing committee on Literature and literary Institutions be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law for the education of Youth residing out of the limits of incorporated towns & plantations with leave &c - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence

Agreeably to assignment at eleven o clock, the House proceeded by ballot to the election of a Senator from this State to the Congress of the United States to supply the existing vacancy - The whole number of ballots given
